Diploma Supplement on Innovation Demo Day & Alumni Meet-up 2016

June 17, 2016

On June 17 th the students of the Diploma Supplement on Innovation class 2015 presented their final innovative projects they were working on intensively during the past summer semester. The pitch challenge took place at TUtheSky in front of an invited audience and potential investors. The prizes given in the following award ceremony were celebrated with drinks, food and a breath- taking view over Vienna.

Birgit Hofreiter, director of the Innovation Incubation Center, opened the event with some welcome words and the latest news of the i²c. After her introduction, Georg Molzer, CTO of kiweno and alumnus of the very first class of the Diploma Supplement on Innovation of 2012, held an impulse talk. He told the audience about his background and how the curriculum supported him in his entrepreneurial career. The alumni impulse talk was followed by the pitch challenge, which was moderated by Daniel Cronin, co-founder of AustrianStartups and passionate pitch trainer. Eleven projects coming out of the Diploma Supplement on Innovation were presented:

1. arsa: Affordable 3D laser scanner for autonomous drones
2. byrd: First-mile shipping service
3. Design4Blind: Modifying and creating boardgames for blind people
4. FlatPal: Shared flats – Bringing people together
5. Ono Bikes: High quality and stylish electric bicycles
6. Pixtri: Picture-based recommender system
7. Radiology Explorer: Unlocking the potential of medical image data
8. Streaminr: Mining social media streams for supply chain risks
9. SUPRY: Gift shopping made easy
10. WhoBrings.it: Easily organising who's bringing what to an event
11. YGAP: Your General Access Point is powering off-grid

Additional to the i²c projects, two other start-ups got the chance to pitch in front of the audience and the jury: Clevapi, image recognition for native advertising and Face2Face, developing custom software projects in cloud with freelancers and students. Those two projects were part of “goAustria”, the international Austria Incubation Program, which is part of the Global Incubator Network (GIN).

After a short break for the jury decision, the following awards were granted: “Acceptance into the TUWi²ncubator” was won by Lisa Madlberger and her project Streaminr. Michael Platzer got an “Office Space at FounderSpace” to further develop his project arsa. Thomas Biason and Lukas Schiller from FlatPal were excited about winning the Mentoring-Session “Negotiation with Investors by Hansi Hansmann”. “€500 in Cash & Individual IP & Financing Consulting by tecnet equity” were given to Markus Holzer from Radiology Explorer. Fabian Dold from YGAP won the “Participation in the Alpbach Summer School on Entrepreneurship by I.E.C.T. and Forum Alpbach”.

The awards and the successful completion of the Diploma Supplement on Innovation were celebrated with drinks, food, music (thanks to our DJ) and a unique view over Vienna. This was innovation at its best! We are very proud of our students and we are excited about the further development of their projects and their entrepreneurial future, for which we wish them all the best!
